                                                 Honoring World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Below are some resources from the Elder Justice Coalition to bring you up to date on the latest news in elder justice:

• Sens. Richard Blumenthal, Susan Collins, Bob Casey, Chris Murphy and Claire McCaskill introduced S.Res.549 which recognizes today as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day nationally.
• EJC National Coordinator Bob Blancato had a piece published on the PBS site Next Avenue on WEAAD and elder abuse. You can read it here.
• Blancato also testified at the Elder Justice Coordinating Council's June 2018 meeting. His testimony, as well as that of Dr. Laura Mosqueda of the National Center on Elder Abuse and Bill Benson of the National Adult Protective Services Association, can be found here.
• The Senate Appropriations Commerce-Justice-Science bill was approved by the committee, and the report language contains multiple references to combating elder abuse and financial fraud. The EJC had submitted a letter to the Committee in support of funding for these programs, as had Sen. Chuck Grassley and other Senators.
• The House Appropriations Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee passed their funding bill today. This bill contains the majority of funding for federal elder justice programs. We will update you as soon as we know more about the specific proposals for elder justice programs, which should be early next week.
